Description
Set in 1960, "Cobb," is a series of duets between two men. Tyrus Raymond "Ty" Cobb and Al Stump. "The Georgia Peach," while perhaps the greatest baseball player who ever lived, was also a racist, a wife-beater, and probably a killer. Stump was a sportswriter with the job of a lifetime--a biography with full access to the principal. Cobb envisions the book as his way of controlling how history sees him, a piece of self-serving, glorifying hogwash. Stump wants the real story, which Cobb (who's wrangled editorial approval) insists Stump cannot include. Stump writes the book Cobb wants, while secretly making notes for his own unvarnished biography. Stump published his version in 1994, and in keeping with its conclusions, the film dares to voice a truth most people regard as unwelcome: Sometimes greatness has nothing to do with goodness.
